Totem Architects won the architectural competition organized by FrieslandCampina SA for the extension of its Abidjan offices. The operation aimed to increase the capacity of the existing office building on the Yopougon industrial site so it could host the company's African headquarters.
The project creates a strong connection between the existing construction and the new extension. Although drawn with clean lines, the new volume presents a bold formal composition that deliberately contrasts with the existing structure. This contrast continues inside: where the original building offers cellular offices, the new one introduces convivial open-plan workspaces filled with daylight and vegetation.
Totem Architects stands out from the physical context by reinterpreting the FrieslandCampina logo colors in an almost playful way, bringing lightness and vibrancy to the industrial landscape. The project is mainly composed of a reception hall and a canteen on the ground floor, with office spaces above.
